This year hasn’t turned out quite as we expected, but some things remain reassuringly stable, including prestigious contests that are looking for the best images by photographers of all skills worldwide.

If you have pictures that you believe are contenders for award recognition, read ahead for info on three top photo competitions taking place this year.

ND AWARDS

The ND (Natural Density) Photography Awards are an offshoot of ND Magazine, an online photography publication founded in 2008. The contest, which launched in 2014, seeks to “discover, inspire and [promote the] best artists.”

Professionals can enter in six main categories:

Architecture, Editorial, Fine Art, Nature, People and Special. 

Amateur photographers can submit entries in five main categories:

Architecture, Fine Art, Nature, People and Special.

Each section has sub-categories, such as Cityscapes in the Architecture category for professional entrants and Macro in the Nature category for amateur competitors. For the full list, visit here.

Professional Grand Prize Winner

$2,500 cash prize ($2000 + $500 for category win)

Title: ND Photographer of the Year

Non-Professional Grand Prize Winner

$1,300 cash prize ($1000 + $300 for category win)

Title: ND Discovery of the Year

Professional Category Winners

Six winners will receive:

$500 cash prize each

Image Rights

You retain copyright of your images. Winners will grant the ND Awards unlimited non-exclusive use of high-resolution images for activities in all media without any remuneration being due.

Model Release

You need to have obtained permission of anyone featured in your images (or their parents/guardians if children under 16 are featured).

MONOCHROME PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS

The mission of the annual Monochrome Photography Awards is to “celebrate monochrome visions and discover the most amazing photographers from around the world.” Best of all, the contest is “open to all points of view, all levels of expertise, and all ideas of black and white photography.

GOMMA PHOTOGRAPHY GRANT

Now in its seventh year, the Gomma Photography Grant contest prides itself on having attained a reputation “for being ethical and quality-focused, with an eye for spotting fresh talent and encouraging those already in the spotlight.”

An offshoot of Gomma Magazine, which began in 2004, the contest seeks work that displays “consistency, personality, and courage.”

This year’s competition is particularly special, as all profits will be donated to charities fighting COVID-19. 

Submissions can be in any genre. The contest seeks “photographers with a fresh eye, courage, and a distinct personality. Someone that has no fear to show their own soul throughout the work. Artists that have the curiosity to investigate the common and capture the every day.”

Proposal to the Gomma publishers network

Featured and interviewed by major photography magazines

Second Prize

€500 (approx. $553) cash prize
